• Well, tomorrow sees the last of the exams for the English season, depending on which Board you follow. No relaxation though. What are we going to do for next year? Which Board are we going to work with for the new exams starting in 2010? Why should all this be happening? shouldn’t we all be working for the same goal, trying to show that all students have succeeded in reaching a suitable standard. What about Functional Skills, such a great idea, but what do they do. Lower the standard and not allow it to continue in its original format. If we teach English correctly, then what are we afraid of. Aren’t we all working to the same level?

  • The pressure time is approaching. The whole idea of having this pressure at a time when ones mind should be relaxed in order to produce the best results is unbellievable. One of the best things is to plan, organise a programme, by which all the key things are carried out a leisurely pace, culminating in the actual exam.

Make a calendar with the exam dates on, which are the most important to you? Colour these in a different colour to help you focus. Mark any special dates, when you are going to relax, party, dance, time with friends, remember,’ All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy’.

If you work in school, and do homework which is set, and follow a programme, even exams can become an easy time.

    Get planning and working.

  • This bumper exam season is on us with the arrival of the New Year.

Passing is not just a case of having read the poem/text/play, it is being able to construct an answer which is suitable for the markers.

Now, what teachers and pupils alike should be doing is looking at questions and how to construct an answer which will provide the most points in the marking scheme.

    Practise makes perfect.

  • Not all turkey and pudding, remember there are exams in January.
